License status on the edge device

Every edge device shows its current license state in the device UI and in the Portal. Use this page to know what each state means and how long a demo will keep running.

Where to find license status

1. Open the edge device UI (or the matching device license view in the Portal).
2. The License card shows one of three states:
   • Demo — the runtime is operating in trial mode.
   • Activating — an activation request is in flight.
   • Activated — a valid license is installed.

Demo countdown

When the device is in Demo state, the License card displays a countdown showing how long the demo session will keep running.

Note

The countdown is anchored to the current demo session. Restarting the runtime resets the demo session.

Caution

When the countdown reaches zero, the runtime stops automatically. Plan activation before the demo ends to avoid an unplanned production stop.

Activation events in the activity log

Activation steps are written to the device activity log. Look for entries related to License, such as a demo session starting, an activation being requested, activation succeeding or failing, and the demo expiring and stopping the runtime.

Activate the device

1. In the License card, start activation.
2. Provide your license/activation key.
3. Wait for the state to move from Activating to Activated.

Note

The license panel updates in real time once the activation subscription reports the new state — there is no need to refresh the page after activation completes.
